23andMe, the California-based genetic testing company, has announced its decision to file for bankruptcy, as confirmed in a statement released late Sunday evening.
In conjunction with the filing, Anne Wojcicki, the company's co-founder, has stepped down as CEO. Wojcicki has indicated her interest in acquiring the company herself.
Financial challenges have plagued 23andMe for several years. In November 2024, the company implemented significant cost-cutting measures, including laying off over 40% of its workforce.
