Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has called for the discontinuation of community water fluoridation, expressing support for Utah's recent decision to prohibit the addition of fluoride to the water supply. "It is illogical to have fluoride in our water," Kennedy remarked during a news conference in Utah. "I am extremely proud of this state for being the first to ban it, and I hope other states will follow suit."
Kennedy's remarks were made during his "Make America Healthy Again" tour, which includes stops across New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which is under Mr. Kennedy’s leadership as Secretary, has historically recognized water fluoridation as one of the ten major public health accomplishments of the 20th century. Following the news conference, Stefanie Spear, Kennedy’s principal deputy chief of staff, announced that Kennedy would instruct the CDC’s Community Preventive Services Task Force to conduct a review of fluoride and issue a new recommendation.
