The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has announced plans to reduce its workforce by 10,000 full-time employees across all health agencies. This reduction will decrease the total workforce from 82,000 to approximately 62,000, factoring in the 10,000 employees who have already left voluntarily.
Additionally, HHS will consolidate its operations from 28 divisions to 15 and reduce its regional offices from 10 to 5. These measures are expected to yield an annual savings of approximately $1.8 billion.
Despite these restructuring efforts, the agency affirmed that Medicare, Medicaid, and other critical health services will remain unaffected.
