President Donald Trump has announced his intention to sign an executive order extending the deadline for the TikTok ban. As a result, ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, will now have an additional 75 days to complete the sale of the social media platform.
Last year, the U.S. Congress passed legislation requiring TikTok to either sell or divest its U.S. assets due to concerns that ByteDance could use the app to manipulate American users or improperly collect their data.
Originally, the deadline for divestment or sale was set for January 19th of this year. However, on his first day in office, President Trump signed an executive order extending the deadline to April 5th. The new extension will push the deadline further, now set for mid-June.
