Attorney General Pam Bondi has announced that the Department of Justice will seek the death penalty for Luigi Mangione, the individual accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. The death penalty will be pursued if Mangione is convicted of capital murder charges.

Mangione has entered a plea of not guilty to both federal and state charges, which allege that he fatally shot Thompson in Midtown Manhattan in December.

A Manhattan grand jury has indicted Mangione on 11 charges, including one count of first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder, in addition to charges related to weapons and forgery. If convicted on the state charges, Mangione faces a potential sentence of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
